Sponsor a Child Today

There is no better feeling then helping out a child in need!

Meet Kephethehile Motshepehi. I have been sending her money since she was 3. In addition, I love picking out toys for her at the dollarstore and mailing them monthly. I can only imagine how happy they make her feel!

I say this because, I took a trip to the Dominican Republic a few years back. I had two suitcases filled with toys, clothes & school supplies. For the months prior to leaving, I searched people's crawl spaces, basements as well as my own "junk:". I also went to used stores and the dollar store. I met an amazing, honest man named Tinto, who took me around to show me where the children shoe shine to make money. He also showed me a school and we walked around the village. The reaction that I recieved from a small girl (around 6 years old), over a McDonald's Doll, has stuck with me ever since.

I have never seen anyone so excited in my whole life!

"One man's trash is another man's treasure" > This has real meaning to it.

Kephethehile only costs $35/month.  I think we would all hope that if a child was starving, sick, uneducated and lacking fresh water, that someone would be willing to pay $35/month to put an end to thier misery. This small amount of money provides them with food, fresh water, an education, medicine and shelter. Take a moment to imagine it was your own child.

It is always rewarding to get updated pictures and letters. For me, it is more exciting then recieving a check in the mail!

I can not wait to one day meet her!

Every 14 Seconds...

...A Child is Orphaned by AIDS

AIDS is leaving children all over africa with one or no parents. It is up to us to add some measure of quality to the lives of vulnerable children!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gdU_pgr4BfE&feature=fvsr

It is estimated that there are 14-15 million AIDS Orphans in the Sub-Saharan Africa. If you were to take every minor (under 18) in Canada, Norway, Sweden, Denmark AND Ireland, you would still have a smaller number then these orphaned AIDS victims in this small area of the world! THESE ARE ONLY THE ORPHANS WITH AIDS. There is an estimated 48 million Orphans in Africa and somewhere between 143 and 210 million worldwide...

8 out of every 10 children in the world who are orphaned as a result of AIDS lives in the Sub-Saharan Africa.

Rescue Africa's Children

Everyday about 5760 Children in Africa becomes an AIDS Orphan! That is 2,102,400 every year JUST IN AFRICA ALONE!

"Let us be the ones who say we do not accept that a child dies every three seconds simply because he does not have the drugs you and I have. Let us be the ones to say we are not satisfied that your place of birth determines your right to life. Let us be outraged, let us be loud, let us be bold." -Brad Pitt
Watoto was founded by Gary & Marilyn Skinner. It was initiated as a response to the devastating and overwelming amount of orphaned children and vulnerable women in Uganda, whose lives have been destroyed by war and disease.
Please watch this video to witness their work. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P8VSsW9XCrE

Let this be a reminder that anyone can help. Let this be a reminder to give and to advocate!

"If you can't feed a hundred people, then feed just one."

I have created this blog because I think everyone should be aware of the millions of children in the world who are alone and suffering.

"No man is so poor as to have nothing worth giving. Give what you have. To someone it may be better than you dare to think." - Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

In third world countries, orphans are much more common and prevalent. These orphanages are usually overcrowded and underfunded.

According to UNICEF, there are somewhere between 143 & 210 MILLION orphans worldwide.
Let me give you a better visual of these numbers. The United States has a population of 312 million people.
Better yet, that is more orphans then the entire population of Russia (142,914,136 people)...and finally, that is at least 4 times Canada's population at 34,605,346!!!

Every 2.2 seconds, a child turns 18 and must leave the orphanage or foster care where they once found shelter (In some cases the child is under 18 years of age). In some countries, 80% become homeless and many are forced into prostitution in order to survive. Even in some areas in America, over 60% of the children who age out, become homeless.

This is more than mere statistics. These are real children, with real feelings, who desperately need a loving hand.
